Questions

Why don't I see the kid screen?

The kid screen only appears on iPhone Duo, when the phone is unfolded and the camera is running in Looky Looky. Check the label at the top of the viewfinder:

  • Kid screen: unfold phone means the phone is folded. Unfold it.
  • Kid screen off means it's turned off. Tap the label to turn it on.
  • Kid screen needs iPhone Duo means this iPhone has no outer screen. See the last question below.

If the camera is paused, for example because you switched apps, the kid screen comes back when Looky Looky is in front again.

How do I set the lens position?

The characters glance toward the camera lens, so your kid's eyes follow them to it. Tap the round target button below the kid screen label (VoiceOver calls it “Lens position”), then choose where the rear lens sits as your kid sees it:

  • Lens above the kid screen
  • Lens to the kid's left
  • Lens to the kid's right

Why aren't my photos saving?

Looky Looky needs permission to add photos to your library. If it doesn't have it, you'll see “Photos can't be saved. Open Settings” at the top of the viewfinder. Tap it, or open the Settings app and find Looky Looky in your list of apps. Tap Photos and choose Add Photos Only or Full Access. If photos still don't save, check that your iPhone has free storage space.

The camera says “Camera access is off”

Tap Open Settings, or open the Settings app, find Looky Looky and turn on Camera. Looky Looky only uses the camera on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded.

How does Auto work?

Turn on Auto and Looky Looky takes a photo once every face in the frame has pointed at the phone for a moment. The chip shows what it sees, such as “No faces”, “1 face” or “Looking!”. It checks which way heads are turned, not where eyes are looking. After a shot, the kids need to look away for a moment before Auto takes another.

What do Hey!, 3-2-1 and Burst do?

Hey! makes the character on the outer screen jump into action with a sound. 3-2-1 counts down before the shot. Burst takes three photos in a row.

Does Looky Looky work on other iPhones?

Yes. On iPhones without an outer screen, it works as a regular camera with 3-2-1, Burst and Auto. To see the characters, tap the small preview at the top of the viewfinder. Looky Looky needs iOS 27.1 or later.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your photos and camera frames stay on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Read the privacy policy for the details.
